Successful selection of an ERP/Supply Chain Solution

From many years experience in the selection gunfight of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) or Supply Chain Solutions I have distilled some major truths:

Number 1

Know what you are shooting for. What do you want to achieve with your new system? What areas of the business need improving? You may have some key areas of your business that need more focus or a better way of execution. Make a list of these areas and then try to set some targets or goals on how much you want to improve them.

Don’t at this stage worry too much about how things should be done. You will instinctively know how you operate and your internal processes. Don’t spend too much time on the “How” you are currently doing things. Spend more time on the “Why” you want a new system and the “What” you are trying to achieve.

You will realise that there are lots of better ways to operate once you start looking around at new ERP or Supply Chain software solutions.
